About TOAST
TOAST (TriBeCa Open Artist Studio Tour) is the voice of the visual artists in TriBeCa. It is an artist-run organization whose mission is to empower the working artists of TriBeCa while providing an educational opportunity for the public, enabling a broader understanding and appreciation of the art-making process through visits to artist studios and the resulting interaction.
Any visual artist working in TriBeCa can participate in the tour. TOAST is the successor to the original Franklinfest art walk, which began in the 1990s. TOAST was established to produce the annual open studio tour, and to provide artists in TriBeCa a year ‘round community network. TOAST also promotes the integration of art and artists into the TriBeCa community by disseminating art information and organizing events in the community with a network of community organizations and schools.
TOAST is a not-for-profit corporation. The participating artists volunteer their time and experience to run the organization and produce the annual weekend event. The goal of TOAST is to generate public interest in the arts and to maintain the well being of TriBeCa’s community of artists.
TOAST showcases the work of local artists through its website, and offers exhibition and open studio opportunities for its artists throughout the year as they become available. (One such example is the TriBeCa 2nd Wednesdays program). TOAST currently plans to develop programs, through its annual studio tour, with the public schools in the community.
TOAST is managed by a 8-member Board of Directors. The Board consists of artists with a wide range of experience in art, education, publicity, and social services. Board meetings are held monthly. All duties and tasks are voluntary. The participating artists, many of whom actively volunteer in the tasks associated with presenting and promoting this annual event, assist the Board in producing the open studio tour
